Tangled web of wires
Posted on: Wednesday, 28 October 2009
Dear Ms Connected,
I’m really starting to get into digital photography, always taking snaps wherever I go. I want to upload and share my pics as soon as possible, by uploading straight to social networking sites but connecting the camera to my netbook with cables is a pain. Is there an easier way to transfer my data then using the camera cord? I hate getting tangled and its annoying when I forget it!
Sandra, Burleigh Heads, QLD
Hi Sandra,
It sounds like you’re into lightweight, compact portability as you mentioned you have a netbook so I’m going to recommend you invest in a card reader. But not just any card reader, because some are connected with a cord too and you’ll end up just as frustrated as you are with your camera cord. I’d like to introduce you to the Kingston MobileLiteG2 card reader, a small, portable card reader that makes managing content quick and convenient between a digital device and a host device with a USB connection such as a PC.
Basically you plug the tiny device into you netbook/PC/laptop/Mac USB port, and plug your flash card into the other end and presto! Data ready to upload. Supported card formats include SD, SDHC, microSD, microSDHC, *Memory Stick PRO Duo, *Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and *Memory Stick Micro (*M2).
The MobileLiteG2 has retractable covers on each side to protect the USB connector and the Flash memory cards from damage and it ships with a lanyard so you can keep it with you at all times and a short USB extension cable to make it easier to use with harder-to-reach USB slots. The MobileLiteG2 ships as a stand-alone reader and is also available as a bundle with a 4GB or 8GB Class 4 SDHC card.
It's also a cost effective option too, with the reader alone available for RRP A$12/NZ$14.50 and with a 4GB memory card or 8GB memory card available for A$33/NZ$41 and A$48/NZ$59.9 respectively.
I hope thats helps you sort out our dilemma and you continue with your new found photography passion.
Yours in simplified technology,
Ms Connected
